Information about claims for hotel accommodation made by Daniel Kawczynski, MP

Request

My FOI request concerns all claims for hotel rooms made by Daniel Kawczynski and his office between 1 January 2020 and 7 July 2021.

Could you please tell me within this time period, how many hotel rooms have been claimed by Mr Kawczynski and how many by his staff?

For each could you list the date, cost and name of each hotel claimed and the total sum at the bottom.

Response

I can confirm that we hold information relevant to your request. It is subject to a Refusal Notice under sections 21 and 22 of the FOIA.

Section 21 applies because some of the information is already published on IPSA’s website and can be found on the page for Mr Kawczynski.

The easiest way to find this information is to Download all claim data as a .csv file. Then filter by the date column, then by category for anything with Travel and finally by expense type for anything with Hotel.

You will find that only the MP claimed for travel on three occasions, with the name of the hotel and the amount claimed.

Information about claims since September 2020 will be published in accordance with our Publication Schedule.

This information is therefore exempt under section 22(1) of the FOIA as it is intended for future publication. MPs have a certain amount of time in which to submit their claims, after which they undergo validation and reconciliation before the information is published. IPSA therefore finds that the public interest in withholding this information outweighs the public interest in disclosure at this time.
