IPSA's application process and staffing

Request

Please can you advise:

  • why candidates are not advised at application that they will not be informed of the status of their application as this is a basic courtesy irrespective of volume

  • the reason for IPSA not subscribing to the DCS as this is a Government scheme

  • the total number of IPSA employees

  • the number of these whom are in the age group 50 - 60

  • the number who are BAME

  • total number of Asian employees

I appreciate that some of these questions may need to be managed as an FOI and I would ask that this be progressed accordingly.

Response

I can confirm that we hold information relevant to your request.

IPSA receives a high volume of applications for each advertised role. We received more than 150 applications for the Chief of Staff role.

We often advertise several roles at once and, in the case of the role to which you applied, we stated in the advert that we would only contact those candidates who had been shortlisted for interview.

This practice is common among organisations and is not specific to IPSA.

The DCS Scheme is a voluntary scheme for organisations across all sectors.

IPSA is an independent regulator and not a government body. We do not subscribe to the DCS scheme.

We do, however, take our obligations under the Equality Act 2010 very seriously. We use a blind recruitment process to ensure we evaluate skills and experience rather than having access to information which could lead to biased decisions.

We also make reasonable adjustments for candidates at interview and in the workplace, where required.

The total number of staff at IPSA is 92, 26 of whom are aged 50+. Of those willing to share their protected characteristics, 25 identify as BAME and seven identify as Asian.
