IPSA holds some of the information that you have requested.

Information about pay and number of staff in each pay band, and salaries broken down by job title for senior staff may be accessed by clicking on the ‘Staff Salaries’ headings at the bottom of the page.

The Speaker of the House of Commons determines the daily rate for the members of IPSA Board which was set in 2009 at £700 for the Chair and £400 for ordinary members. The daily rates have remained unchanged since 2009. Information about the IPSA Board Remuneration & Expenses is published on our website.

Section 21

Salaries of IPSA staff broken down into job title and salary

IPSA does not hold a list of salary bands mapped against each job title other than those published on the website. The Freedom of Information Act does not require IPSA to create new datasets in order to respond to an information request.

We have given careful consideration to your request and have estimated the work needed to compile a list broken down by job title.

Section 12 of the Freedom of Information Act provides an exemption from the duty to disclose information if the cost of doing so exceeds specific limits. In deciding whether to carry out this work to create a new dataset in response to your request, we have used this limit as a guide.

The appropriate limit for Public Authorities, such as IPSA, is currently set at £450 which represents the cost of one person spending more than 18 hours identifying, locating, retrieving and extracting information falling within the scope of your request.

As the top of one pay grade overlaps the bottom of the next grade, it is not possible to determine grade based solely on the salary. The only way we could produce a list would be by checking each individual job and checking /matching it to the relevant pay band. This would involve retrieving and checking records for each staff member, which then would need to be analysed to extract the requested information and then combining it with the relevant pay bands.

We have, therefore, determined that the cost of complying would exceed the appropriate limit set out in The Freedom of Information and Data Protection (Appropriate Limit and Fees) Regulations 2004. We are therefore unable to comply with this part of your information request.

This concludes our response to your request.
