  • The names and familial relationship to the MP of those employed by them

Response

IPSA holds some of the information that you request.

Under the Scheme of MPs’ Business Costs and Expenses (‘the Scheme’), claims may be made for the staffing and business costs by MPs or others, which are in support of the MP’s parliamentary functions. The information published includes the names and salary bands of connected parties. ‘Connected parties’ is a term we use for immediate members of MPs’ families and business partners with whom they share significant interests.

The information that you have requested is published on our website, or is intended for future publication as part of our rolling publication schedule. The annual publication for 2018-19 is due to be published later this year.

In the top right-hand corner, select the financial year you are interested in. Then select the ‘other data’ spreadsheet from the drop-down menu, and download the spreadsheet. This gives you access to the spreadsheet. Data for specific MPs is available on the ‘Your MP’ pages. Select the MP using the A-Z list. Data concerning connected parties is in the ‘Other financial information’ section.

1. The names of all MPs who still employ family members

This information may be accessed through our website as described above.

2. The names and familial relationship to the MP: of those employed by them

The names of connected parties are published on our website. IPSA does not require MPs to provide information about the nature of the family relationship. IPSA does not, therefore, hold information about the familial relationship of connected parties to the MPs employing them.

3. The annual salaries afforded by the tax payer to each of these family members

Connected parties’ salaries are published on the website in £5,000 bands.

Exemptions

Section 21 – Information reasonably accessible by other means

The Freedom of Information Act states that information that is accessible by other means is not subject to release. Therefore, as the information you have requested is already available on our website, it is exempt from disclosure under section 21 of the Act (information accessible to applicant by other means).

This concludes our response to your request.
