Number of MPs employing staff as an office manager, senior parliamentary assistant and parliamentary assistant
IPSA holds some of the information that you request.
By way of background, IPSA was established in May 2010 and does not hold information relating to operations before that date.
Under the Scheme of MPs’ Business Costs and Expenses (‘the Scheme’), staffing costs may be claimed to meet the cost of staff who support MPs in performing their parliamentary functions. IPSA provides model contracts and job descriptions for all staff employed by MPs, the specific conditions of which (such as pay and annual leave entitlement) can be set by the employing MP, usually within bands specified by IPSA.
At the end of each financial year, we publish information on each MP's staffing arrangements. This includes the job titles and working arrangements of staff employed by the MP during that financial year. This can be found on each MP's page, under 'Other Financial Information'. Information on standard job roles and payscales can be found here.
The following table outlines the number of MPs who employ or employed staff in the three job categories you requested since 2010.
