Indexation of MPs' pensions
Request
This request concerns the indexation for inflation of all pension payments from the Parliamentary Contributory Pension Fund to Members of the House of Commons, or former Members, in the period 1 April 2012 to 31 March 2016.
During that period were any pension payments made to Members or former Members of the House which included indexation for inflation which was at a rate other than the appropriate Consumer Prices Index issued by the Office for National Statistics? If so, when were such payments made and to which members?
Response
As you may be aware, IPSA is responsible for making a pension scheme for MPs, which the House of Commons Pensions Unit administers, through the Parliamentary Contributory Pension Fund (PCPF). You can find out more about the PCPF on their website at the following address: http://www.mypcpfpension.co.uk.
The current pension scheme for MPs, which came into effect on 8 May 2015, uses the Consumer Price Index (CPI) as a means of indexation, as did the previous House of Commons scheme.
For further information, you may wish to contact the House of Commons Pensions Unit, who are responsible for administering the MPs' Pensions Scheme. They can be contacted via pensionsmp@parliament.uk.
