Correspondence sent to Sir Ian Kennedy regarding MPs' pay since 17 April 2014

Request

Under the Freedom of Information Act 2000, please disclose all correspondence to IPSA chief executive Sir Ian Kennedy from members of the public in the last three months concerning the level of pay and/or expenses.

I understand that given they are members of the public rather than public figures in their own right that you'll rightly redact their names/personal details, but please reveal the content of their remarks concerning MPs' pay, which will understandably be useful as a barometer of public opinion.

If relevant/possible and permissible within cost limits, please include Sir Ian/IPSA's reply to the member of the public on each occasion. If possible, please include the date of each item of correspondence and If cost limits clash, please focus on the first part of the request.

Response

IPSA holds the information that you request.

In processing your request, we searched our systems for any correspondence sent directly to Sir Ian Kennedy by members of the public during the three months prior to the date of your request, regarding the level of pay and/or expenses. We located one email, sent to Sir Ian Kennedy on 15 July 2014. Please find attached a copy of that email, alongside the attached letter.

We have redacted the name of the individual, alongside any of their personal information, under section 40 of the FOIA. Section 40(2) provides that personal information about third parties is exempt information if one of the conditions set out in section 40(3) is satisfied. Under the FOI Act disclosure of this information would breach the fair processing principle (Principle 1) of the Data Protection Act 1998 (DPA), where it would be unfair to those persons or is confidential.
