Names of landlords from whom MPs rent property

Request

The name of each MP along with the name of any individual or organisation from whom they rent a property - I would like to see clearly who each MP rents a property from.

If you refuse to provide the information, please consider whether it would be possible to release the names of those renting out the properties without the MPs' names attached. If any information is redacted or refused, please make it clear which exemptions you are using and how those exemptions apply to the information.

Response

IPSA holds the information that you request.

I can confirm that IPSA is currently preparing information for release under a separate FOI request (reference FOI2012-A063a) – received prior to your request – including details of Members of Parliament who claim for rental accommodation under the Scheme for Business Costs and Expenses and their landlord names.  Therefore, IPSA has taken the view that the information you have requested is exempt under Section 22(1) of the FOIA (Information intended for future publication).

We have considered whether the public interest in releasing the information outweighs the application of the exemption. It is our opinion that the public interest is best served by publishing a full list rather than on an ad hoc basis, as in this way a clear and complete set of information is published, avoiding any potential confusion. It is for this reason that the application of the exemption outweighs the public interest in disclosure at this stage.

We will respond and publish the response to FOI request reference FOI2012-A063a on 19 November 2012.  The response to this FOI request will be available via this link to the Freedom of Information section of our website.
