Location of all MPs' main homes

Request

Please could I be supplied with a list of all MPs who have designated a 'main' home that is neither in their constituency nor in London.

Response

You requested information relating to the location of MPs’ main homes. Your request has been handled under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOIA). I can confirm that IPSA does not hold the information that falls within the description specified in your request.

IPSA’s MPs’ Expenses Scheme provides for MPs outside the London Area to claim for accommodation expenses, for either a residence in an MP’s constituency or in London. The principle is that many MPs will need accommodation at a second location to do their jobs, and so the cost of such accommodation should be met from public funds. The accommodation funded by IPSA is therefore not an MP’s main home, but their second residence. This is reflected in the budget available to MPs for accommodation expenses, which is based on the cost of a one-bed, rented flat in a location that is functional to an MP’s place of work. Consequently, IPSA does not hold a list of MPs’ main homes, or information on their location.
