Employment details of an MPs' member of staff

Request

I'm writing to confirm that I would like to file a freedom of information request on [name redacted], who works [...] for Mike Hancock, the Lib Dem MP for Portsmouth South.

I would like to know whether parliament or some other body pays [their] wages - and if so, which body or organisation. I'm also interested in what [their] current renumeration is and how long [they] have been employed as a parliamentary assistant.

Response

I can confirm that IPSA holds the information that falls within the description specified in your request.

In IPSA’s view, the information you have requested is exempt under section 40 (personal information) of the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), as the information constitutes third party data. Section 40(2) states that personal data about third parties is exempt information if one of the conditions set out in section 40(3) is satisfied. Under the FOI Act disclosure of this information would breach the fair processing principle contained in the Data Protection Act (DPA), where it would be unfair to that person/is confidential.
