Historical increases in MPs' pay

As you may be aware, IPSA began operations on 7 May 2010. Prior to 7 May 2010, the administration of MPs’ salaries, business costs and expenses was the responsibility of the Department of Resources at the House of Commons. IPSA does not hold any information on votes conducted in Parliament. This information may be located within Hansard, the official report of Parliamentary debates, which can be found at the following address: https://hansard.parliament.uk/.

Responsibility for reviewing and determining MPs’ pay was transferred to IPSA in 2011 under the terms of the Constitutional Reform and Governance Act 2010. MPs’ pay is now determined by IPSA independently of Government and Parliament; MPs no longer vote on their pay.

You can find out more about MPs’ pay since 2010 on our website. This provides the annual salaries of MPs’ since IPSA was established in 2010 and the date at which their salary was amended. These changes were determined and implemented by IPSA and were not voted on by MPs in Parliament.

The FOIA states that information that is accessible by other means is not subject to release. Therefore, as the information you have requested relating to MPs’ pay since 2010 is already available on our website, it is exempt from disclosure under section 21 of the FOIA (information accessible to applicant by other means).
