Whether Andrew Stunell MP has employed an apprentice

Request

I would very much like to know whether my local MP, Andrew Stunell, currently or over the last year has paid for an apprentice. I cannot see this in his expenses details. Much obliged if you could advise.

Response

Under the MPs’ Scheme of Business Costs and Expenses (‘the Scheme’), staffing expenditure may be claimed from IPSA to meet the cost incurred in the provision of staff to assist with the performance of an MP’s parliamentary functions. This includes ‘apprentices’ where those apprenticeships meet the standards of the National Apprenticeship Service.

MPs are, of course, free to fund the costs of apprentices themselves, or the costs may be met through third-parties (such as political parties). In these instances, we would not necessarily hold this information.

As such, we do not hold any record of Mr Stunell having employed an apprentice.
