Response
IPSA holds the information that you request.
Members of Parliament may employ individuals on casual contracts, whereby the staff member is paid an hourly rate rather than a monthly salary. You can view a sample contract on our website (http://parliamentarystandards.org.uk), located under the IPSA for MPs tab.
Individuals employed on casual contracts may include any short-term staff taken on – for example, to provide paternity, maternity or sickness cover – part-time as well as full-time staff and apprentices and interns whose employment conditions have fulfilled the conditions set out in paragraphs 7.8 and 7.9 of the MPs’ Scheme of Business Costs and Expenses (‘the Scheme’).
According to our records, the following number of MPs have registered casual contracts with IPSA in the financial years specified:
Financial year | Number of MPs who registered casual contracts |
2012/13 | 216 |
2013/14 | 144 |
Further, there were 84 individuals employed by MPs on casual contracts who received payment through IPSA last month.
