Under the Freedom of Information Act, I hereby submit an request for details of all legal and non-legal costs from 4th October 2012 to 31st January 2014 in respect of IPSA’s legal case concerning Stewart Jackson MP.

IPSA holds some of the information that you request.

In our response to a previous FOI request, reference F1314-088, we provided the legal fees and disbursements relating to the case brought against Stewart Jackson MP by IPSA between 1 October 2012 and 31 July 2013.  IPSA publishes responses to all Freedom of Information requests on its website, which you can access via this link

The FOIA states that information that is accessible by other means is not subject to release. Therefore, as the information you have requested is already available on our website, it is exempt from disclosure under section 21 of the FOIA (information accessible to applicant by other means). 

The information contained within this response therefore relates to the legal costs and disbursements incurred by IPSA between 1 August 2013 and 31 January 2014.

The full cost of legal and professional advice, counsel fees and disbursements relating to the case brought against Stewart Jackson MP by IPSA between 1 August 2013 and 31 January 2014 was £10,468.10 before VAT[1].

IPSA does not hold a record of the amount of IPSA staff time spent on work related to the legal case, and we are therefore unable to separately identify the staff cost.

[1] Not all of the amounts included in this aggregate figure are subject to VAT. Legal fees and counsel fees are subject to VAT, but disbursements are not.
