Full details of Pay and Pensions polling methods

Request

I recently received this statement from a petitioner at change.org:

“IPSA say their polling showed that only 45% of people felt that the package was too generous and that "the public view is more sophisticated than many commentators have given them credit for".”

Please provide full details of your polling methods including details of third-party polling organisations if used, sample numbers polled, geographical locations and results.

Response

IPSA holds the information that you request.

As part of the recent consultation on MPs’ pay and pensions, IPSA conducted two external opinion polls.  The poll to which you refer in your request was undertaken by ComRes, who interviewed 2249 UK adults online between 20th September and 24th September 2013.  The figures were weighted and are representative of all GB adults (aged 18 and over).

The full results of this survey, which include all of the questions asked alongside further information on the methodology, are available on our website.

The FOIA states that information that is accessible by other means is not subject to release. Therefore, as some of the information you have requested is already available on our website, it is exempt from disclosure under section 21 of the FOIA (information accessible to applicant by other means).
