Names of all staff employed by MPs, 1997-2012

Request

I wish to request under the freedom of information the names of all staff who work or have worked in each of all the MP's constituency offices that includes Managers, part time workers, internships, caseworkers, research assistants from 1997 - 2012

Response

IPSA started paying MPs’ staff from 7 May 2010 when IPSA came into existence.  We only hold information relating to the staff that work or have worked in MPs’ constituency offices from that date forward.  To make an FOI request relating to a time period prior to 7 May 2010 you may wish to contact the House of Commons FOI team at the following email address: foicommons@parliament.uk.

In IPSA’s view, the information you have requested is exempt under section 40 (personal information) of the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), as the names of individual members of staff who work, or who have worked, at MPs’ constituency offices constitutes personal data.

Section 40(2) provides that personal data about third parties is exempt information if one of the conditions set out in section 40(3) is satisfied. Under the FOI Act disclosure of this information would breach the fair processing principle (Principle 1) of the Data Protection Act 1998 (DPA), where it would be unfair to those persons or is confidential.
