Number of declined travel-card related expense claims

Request

To ask, under the terms of the Freedom of Information Act, how many  claims for reimbursement of expenses by MPs have been declined due to non-production of receipts, when the transactions in question were completed using the Ipsa-issued credit card, the value of each claim and the items claimed.

Response

Specifically, you asked for information on:

  • the number of claims for reimbursement of expenses by MPs that have been declined due to the non-production of receipts, when the transactions in question were completed using the IPSA-issued credit card;

  • the value of each claim; and

  • the items claimed.

Between May 2010 and 14 June 2011, some 44 payment card transactions out of a total of 19,976 validated payment card transactions were classified as “Not Paid” due to insufficient evidence being submitted. This represents just 0.22% of all validated payment card transactions.

The great majority (35) of these Not Paid transactions date from between May and August 2010 and most of these (32) were processed in or before October 2010 during IPSA’s start up phase when both IPSA’s staff and MPs were familiarising themselves with the new systems and processes.

The attached spreadsheet lists the value of each of these 44 claims and the items they relate to.
