Request

I have recently heard much criticism of the new MP's expenses rules and the administration of same by IPSA. I would be most interested to be advised of how many staff are employed by IPSA, what their job descriptions are and the salary level of each post. Also I see there are vacancies and would like to know the future estimates of staffing levels.

Response

Your request has been handled under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOIA). I can confirm that IPSA holds the information that falls within the description specified in your request.

In the set-up and transitional phase of IPSA, there will be approximately 70 staff in place from April 2010 onwards.

IPSA will conduct a thorough organisational review in the autumn to ensure that it is meeting business needs and operating in a cost effective and efficient way. Subject to the outcome of the organisational review it is expected that the number of staff will progressively reduce towards 57 by October 2010.

Attached is an organisational chart which shows IPSA’s expected structure in October 2010.

Details of senior staff salaries and a breakdown by pay band of junior staff salaries will be published in the IPSA Annual report which will be available in Summer 2010. This information is therefore exempt under Section 22 (Information intended for future publication) of the FOIA.

Please find attached the job descriptions for staff currently working at the Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority (IPSA). There are thirty-six job descriptions that broadly capture the roles of the approximate seventy members of staff currently working here.
