IPSA's use of Section 38(1)(b) within Freedom of Information responses

Request

I would also like to know how many times over the past year you have used the Section 38(1)(b) exemption, and in relation to what requests.

Response

I can confirm that we hold information relevant to your request.

We have taken “past year” to mean past 12 months going back from November 2021; with hindsight, this should have been clarified with you.

For the period 17 November 2020 – 17 November 2021, IPSA received a total of 177 requests and claimed the exemption at section 38(1)(b), 26 times.

The requests were for information relating to MPs or former MPs, either copies of invoices and receipts, or information about accommodation.

The information redacted was: private addresses; names and addresses of hotels where an MP may have stayed; names and addresses of small and/or private landlords; details of suppliers with routine or unsupervised access to an MP’s office; information about security arrangements; information about travel arrangements.
